The Gold Singing Award – Simply Spellbinding
Friday 6 May 2016
The finals of the prestigious Gold Singing Award took place in the Ernest Read Hall on Thursday 5 May. It truly was one of the undisputed highlights of the musical year at Queenswood, and the standard this year was higher than ever.
Each finalist performed two numbers: one a classical aria, the other a pop or musical theatre song.

We were delighted to welcome two extremely distinguished singers to Queenswood on the day of the competition. In the afternoon, West End star Michael McLean led a masterclass for all competitots. Lee Hickenbottom, a renowned tenor with The Royal Opera, was our adjudicator at the finalists’ concert, and was faced with some difficult decisions!
The results were as follows:

- Best Musical Theatre Song: Grace Cornell (Lower Sixth)
- Commended: Lucy Baker (Upper Sixth)
- Highly Commended: Daniella Rocca (Upper Sixth)
- Winner: Eleanor Grant (Year 11)
Congratulations to all 13 competitors on their outstanding performances, and thanks to singing teachers Ms Rees, Ms Pilgrim and Mr Gower, to accompanists Mr Dobson, Mr Newport and Mr Shaw, and to Mrs Paris who organised the event.
