'Those who know nothing of foreign languages, know nothing of their own' – Goethe
Our main aim is to inspire a life-long love of languages. All Year 7 girls study Spanish and girls choose French or Japanese as a second language. The majority of girls study at least one language to GCSE and around two thirds take on a second. All three subjects are also offered at A-Level, and our results are excellent.
We are lucky enough to have native-speaking teaching staff who provide invaluable help to the girls in preparation for their oral examinations.
The Department maintains strong links with former Queenswood girls who are currently studying languages at Oxford and Cambridge University. In addition to this, the Japanese Department has received the prestigious Good Schools Guide Award for excellence.
Work experience and cultural visits form an integral part of the Department’s work. Recent trips include a visit to Japan, a cultural mini-break to Paris, work experience in southern Spain and an Italian study trip to the Amalfi Coast.
